Careta Brunei was started by a true lover of cars, motorcycle, and even airplanes. He drove his first car (1974 Honda Civic 2 door) at the early age of 9. He started buying car magazine like MotorTrend and Car & Driver on a monthly basis as early as 12 years old.
In the mid-1990s, he learned to ride his first motorcycle. A friend needed help riding his bike back to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei from Miri, Sarawak asked if he could help. Although only having ridden once (a Yamaha Virago 535) in a small kampong (village) road, he was so eager to ride again that he went to the get a motorcycle Learner’s license from the Land Transport Department and took the next bus to Miri.
When he arrived in Miri that evening, he got a crash course in riding in the hotel’s parking lot. The next morning, he braved his fears and lack of riding experience and headed back to Brunei. He immediately fell in love with riding and several months later bought his first bike.
Oh, the bike he rode back was a Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.
In 2004, while living in Malaysia, he dropped into Mercedes-Benz tuner’s showroom (one of his favorite pastimes) to check out the cars they had. As the showroom had just opened and lacked a salesperson, the Operation Clerk then asked him to apply for the sales position on the count of his knowledge of cars. He accepted, excelled at it and stayed in the profession for several years.
Apart from selling cars and motorcycles, he operated a car detailing shop for a few years and is a stickler for clean cars. Expect some advice in this department too.
Join him as he shares his love and passion for automobiles.
